CHIMNEY WALK OFFICES REACH TOPPING OUT MILESTONE

February 10, 2023

Vastint UK along with building contractor Deprom, celebrate an important milestone in the construction of Chimney Walk offices, as the final structural element is placed.  The three buildings; ‘Colour Works’, ‘The Ink House’ and ‘Type Building’, collectively offering 220,000 sq ft office space and 23,000 sq ft ground floor retail retail, have now all ‘topped out’.

With the superstructures now complete, works continue to progress well on the three buildings. ‘Colour Works’ and ‘Type House’ are further advanced in construction than ‘The Ink House.’ The two buildings continue with internal fit out, in sequence from bottom to top. Works include painting, tiling of the bathrooms, second fix M&E, lighting and installation of sanitaryware.

The Ink House is undergoing completion of the external mastic for waterproofing, erection of steelworks, and continuation of the curtain walling.

Richard Lam, Head of Construction, South for Vastint UK said: ‘We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. This is our first project where we have utilised the fully precast structural system with a prefabricated façade which has resulted in significantly improved elevations as all panels were manufactured in the factory, rather than on site. Which has also meant we have reduced the logistics and manpower required to complete the installation. This is a great advertisement for embracing modern methods of construction.”

In addition to the new buildings, Chimney Walk will feature three industrial era chimneys thought to date back to the late 19th or early 20th century. When works began on site the chimneys were de-constructed, the bricks carefully removed by hand, cleaned and then stored until they were ready to be re-built. Reconstruction of the first chimney is now complete, with the second expected to complete later this month. The third chimney will be delivered in a future phase.
