NEW FREE EXHIBITIONS LAUNCH ON THE ISLAND THIS WEEK
As part of our fantastic partnership with Hypha Studios, we’re thrilled to announce the two new exhibitions taking place on the Island from this Friday until mid-September.
During this South Asian Heritage Month, Gallery 1 will be home to ‘Under Our Mum’s Feet’, an exhibition by 14 artists who form part of DominAsian. The exhibition takes a fascinating look at South Asian identity from a multigenerational perspective, highlighting themes of immigration, traditional creative practices and the meaning of home.
The exhibition will be running from 9th August to 14th September, from 12-6pm every day.
Gallery 2 will house ‘Ripples’, which features work by 20 emerging artists and touches on themes of decoloniality, generational trauma and repatriation through mixed-media works such as installation, film, painting and photography, inviting the viewer to engage with each artist’s personal narratives on the topic.
The exhibition will be running from 9th August to 13th September, from 11am-8pm every Wednesday-Sunday.
Both exhibitions will be accompanied by a programme of free events for the community, including a panel talk with older South Asian artisans and live performances on the impact of colonialism. Follow @hyphastudios for updates on the schedule of events.
