FIVE YEARS OF SUGAR HOUSE ISLAND
Celebrating a series of five-year milestones, Sugar House Island is looking back at its evolution and the people and places that have shaped it. As part of this anniversary moment, we’ll be hosting a month-long series spotlighting the businesses, partners and residents who contribute to the Island’s distinct character, creativity and community spirit.
In 2020, two of the Island’s most defining phases reached completion: our first residential stage, Botanical Mews, and our creative quarter, Dane’s Yard. These milestones marked the beginning of a new chapter—one where homes, workspaces and cultural destinations started to come together in a meaningful way. Five years on, Botanical Mews is now fully occupied, and Dane’s Yard is 96% let to an inspiring mix of creative and innovative organisations.
With its iconic industrial architecture, Dane’s Yard has become a symbol of Sugar House Island’s identity. The neighbourhood brings together Jim & Tonic East, our resident gin and rum bar and distillery with its lively cultural calendar, alongside creative institutions such as UD Music and East London Dance, both dedicated to nurturing the next generation of artistic talent.
Completing these early phases marked the beginning of our long-term vision: a thriving neighbourhood where residents enjoy the amenities and connection of a close-knit community, and where businesses and creatives feel supported to grow, collaborate and innovate.
As we celebrate this milestone year, we’ll be sharing stories from across the Island—spotlighting the people, partnerships and places that bring its ambition to life.
Stay tuned to our channels throughout the month as we continue exploring Five Years of Sugar House Island.
