TWO NEW LEASES STRENGTHEN SUGAR HOUSE ISLAND’S BUSINESS AND EDUCATION COMMUNITY
There’s plenty to celebrate at Sugar House Island as we welcome Anglo-Eastern to the neighbourhood, alongside an expansion of the University of Huddersfield – London campus. Study Group in partnership with the University of Huddersfield, and global ship management company Anglo-Eastern have signed to take a combined 15,618 sq ft at Chimney Walk.
The University of Huddersfield – London, delivered in partnership with Study Group, is expanding its campus here on the Island — doubling its footprint as demand from international students continues to grow. Since opening its doors last year, the campus has quickly established itself as a dynamic place to study business and computer-related courses, attracting students from around the world. This expansion means even more learners will soon be calling Sugar House Island home, bringing fresh energy and global perspectives to the community.
We’re also pleased to welcome Anglo-Eastern, the world’s leading independent ship management services provider, which is relocating its London headquarters from Canary Wharf to Sugar House Island.
Both the university expansion and Anglo-Eastern’s new HQ will be based at Colour Works, part of Chimney Walk – our newest and largest phase of commercial development at Sugar House Island. Developer Vastint UK secured dual use status on two buildings in Chimney Walk in 2024, allowing both business and education occupiers to operate from the buildings.
Penny Cameron, Managing Director at Vastint UK, said, “By bringing education and enterprise together, we’ve created a compelling offer that continues to attract a diverse range of occupiers. These deals are a clear sign of the momentum building across the Island and the growing demand from forward-thinking organisations making the move to East London to be part of an integrated mixed-use environment, and to reap the benefits of Stratford’s impressive connectivity at a national, regional and international level – connecting occupiers to opportunity across London, all while benefiting from a vibrant, self-sustaining community on their doorstep.”
Professor Melinda Tan MBE, Chief Academic Officer and General Manager UK & Europe at Study Group, said: “This expansion marks an important step in the continued growth of the University of Huddersfield – London. As we welcome more students and prepare for the initial undergraduate intake in September 2026, it is essential that we continue to invest in high-quality facilities that support both academic success and student wellbeing. We are creating an environment where students can build the skills, confidence and connections needed for their future careers. This new space will enhance the overall experience for our students and reflects our long-term commitment to London as a key study destination.”
